RIYADH: The King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (K.A.CARE) is working closely with the Ministry of Transportation, the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), the Saudi Wildlife Authority (SWA) and the Director-General of Military Surveying to speed up work on the creation of a blueprint for the Kingdom’s renewable energy strategy.
Its vision to be achieved by 2032 aims to replace 50 percent of the dependence on traditional fossil fuels with eco-friendly atomic and renewable energy.
The project, entitled “Atlas of the Sources of Renewable Energy in Saudi Arabia”, is set to be a landmark program implemented by K.A.CARE in coordination with government agencies and local and international experts.
The move aims to attract local and foreign investments in the field of renewable energy by harnessing the potential that abounds in the Kingdom in the fields of solar, thermal and wind energy.
The ambitious project seeks to create a profile for the future of clean energy in the Kingdom and will provide technical data and information regarding renewable energy sources in various regions of the Kingdom.
“K.A.CARE works very closely with various government agencies such as the ministry of transportation, SEC, SWA and the directorate-general of military survey with the prime objective being to create atlas-generated information and data,” an official at the K.A.CARE media department said recently.
The Atlas Team is currently working with key partners from the Kingdom and outside the country to provide additional information about airports, dams, water-wells, waste management and volcanic areas, the media department noted.
“Atlas is particularly important as it provides valuable assistance to the government agencies and decision-makers in drawing up their policies and implementing regulations which will be extremely helpful to them when implementing renewable energy projects throughout the Kingdom,” an official said.
